Freelance writer Ron Miller wrote an article featuring NewsGator in his latest Home Base column in Network World Fusion, titled PR on the Cheap. From Ron’s weblog:
I describe how small companies who can’t afford to hire a PR firm or a clipping service, can use a news aggregator such as NewsGator to help monitor the Web and blogs for information about their company or markets.
Great stuff!
Reading
“The product tracks every public reference made to the company, whether it be in a news story, on a Web site or in a Weblog.”
and
“Every time someone writes about our product, it’s right there in NewsGator, staring me in the face,” says Burton L. (Buzz) Bruggeman, ActiveWords executive vice president. “This would be impossible to do manually. If there are a million Weblogs, how can I deal without using an aggregator?”
indicates to me they’re subscribed to a feedster search and not to individual weblogs. It would have been nice had the article mentioned that as feedster is at least as important as the aggregator in this case.
Also, I find the following statement rather ironic given their choice for newsgator means they use outlook as their aggregator:
“Another option is to sign up for free Google or Yahoo News feeds, which send you a link to every story that contains a keyword you define. Though free, this method adds to your already crowded e-mail box.”
I don’t mean this as criticism for newsgator by the way, but the author may have wanted to rephrase some of those statements.
I just read Luke’s comments. When I spoke to Ron Miller I told him how much I liked both NewsGator and Feedster. I also told him what great people Greg and Scott Johnson of their companies were.
I view both technologies to be sensational and both companies to be great. I thought Ron’s article was an accurate reflection of what we talked about. If there is a better way for a little company like ours to proactively deal with anything that is written about us in weblogs, please let me know.

Buzz: I think using an aggregator along with feedster is an excellent way to keep up with what’s written about you in weblogs. I myself subscribe to a search for “SharpReader” to do just that.
My comment mainly had to do with the fact that feedster was not mentioned and that it’s kind of ironic that he’s putting down email solutions for clogging up ones mailbox, while newsgator basically delivers rss feeds to your mailbox.
